Donald G. Whitty

Don­ald Whit­ty, Cer­ti­fied Train­ing and Devel­op­ment Pro­fes­sion­al (CTDP), is a ver­sa­tile train­ing man­age­ment pro­fes­sion­al with broad-rang­ing expe­ri­ence in plan­ning, design, tech­nol­o­gy, train­ing, lead­er­ship, col­lab­o­ra­tion, prod­uct devel­op­ment, deploy­ment and operations.

Don is cur­rent­ly the Pres­i­dent-Learn­ing for Calian Group. He joined Calian already under­stand­ing the learn­ing and devel­op­ment land­scape beyond the company’s cur­rent mar­kets. He has run pro­grams for phar­ma, pub­lish­ing, tele­com and oil and gas, and has large pri­vate enter­prise expe­ri­ence hav­ing worked on the learn­ing pro­grams of many Glob­al clients.

Before join­ing Calian Group, he was the Chief Learn­ing Strate­gist for Tata Inter­ac­tive Sys­tems, where he was respon­si­ble for dri­ving inno­va­tion, uti­liza­tion and best prac­tice in tech­nol­o­gy enabled learn­ing to a wide range of For­tune 500 clients.

Don recent­ly served on the Board of Direc­tors of the Cana­di­an Soci­ety for Train­ing & Devel­op­ment (now Insti­tute for Per­for­mance and Learn­ing). He is also a mem­ber of numer­ous pro­fes­sion­al orga­ni­za­tions, advi­so­ry boards and boards of direc­tors in pri­vate indus­try, acad­e­mia and gov­ern­ment. Through­out his career, he has under­tak­en vis­it­ing fac­ul­ty engage­ments at uni­ver­si­ties in Cana­da, the Unit­ed States and Ire­land. A rec­og­nized mem­ber of Peer Resource’s Men­tor Hall of Fame, Don has also been named a Com­mu­ni­ty IT Hero by the Infor­ma­tion Tech­nol­o­gy Asso­ci­a­tion of Canada.

Don has strong ties to New Brunswick, and to the Atlantic region, cur­rent­ly resid­ing in Bathurst, NB. From 1993 to 1999, he was Depart­ment Chair for Learn­ing Tech­nolo­gies and Direc­tor of the Dis­trib­uted Learn­ing Cen­tre at NBCC Miramichi. Between 1999 and 2009, Don held var­i­ous posi­tions with­in the pri­vate sec­tor, main­tain­ing a base in Fred­er­ic­ton while work­ing in var­i­ous loca­tions across Cana­da, the Unit­ed States and Unit­ed King­dom. From 2009 to 2015 Don was the Direc­tor for Infor­ma­tion and Knowl­edge Man­age­ment for Sun­cor Ener­gy in Cal­gary, AB. He holds a Bach­e­lor of Edu­ca­tion in Tech­nol­o­gy Edu­ca­tion from the Uni­ver­si­ty of New Brunswick and a Diplo­ma of Advanced Under­grad­u­ate Stud­ies from Memo­r­i­al University.
