Donald G. Whitty

Donald Whitty, Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP), is a versatile training management professional with broad-ranging experience in planning, design, technology, training, leadership, collaboration, product development, deployment and operations.

Don is currently the President-Learning for Calian Group. He joined Calian already understanding the learning and development landscape beyond the company’s current markets. He has run programs for pharma, publishing, telecom and oil and gas, and has large private enterprise experience having worked on the learning programs of many Global clients.

Before joining Calian Group, he was the Chief Learning Strategist for Tata Interactive Systems, where he was responsible for driving innovation, utilization and best practice in technology enabled learning to a wide range of Fortune 500 clients.

Don recently served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Society for Training & Development (now Institute for Performance and Learning). He is also a member of numerous professional organizations, advisory boards and boards of directors in private industry, academia and government. Throughout his career, he has undertaken visiting faculty engagements at universities in Canada, the United States and Ireland. A recognized member of Peer Resource’s Mentor Hall of Fame, Don has also been named a Community IT Hero by the Information Technology Association of Canada.

Don has strong ties to New Brunswick, and to the Atlantic region, currently residing in Bathurst, NB. From 1993 to 1999, he was Department Chair for Learning Technologies and Director of the Distributed Learning Centre at NBCC Miramichi. Between 1999 and 2009, Don held various positions within the private sector, maintaining a base in Fredericton while working in various locations across Canada, the United States and United Kingdom. From 2009 to 2015 Don was the Director for Information and Knowledge Management for Suncor Energy in Calgary, AB. He holds a Bachelor of Education in Technology Education from the University of New Brunswick and a Diploma of Advanced Undergraduate Studies from Memorial University.
