Byron James
Byron James Clerk of the Executive Council and Secretary to Cabinet

Byron James was named Clerk of the Executive Council and Secretary to Cabinet on December 1st, 2010. Previous to that, Mr. James held the position of Deputy Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour since September 2008.

From 2006 to 2008 he held the dual function of Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Aquaculture and Deputy Minister for Fisheries. He also held the position of Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture from 2003 to 2006, Deputy Minister for the Department of Environment and Local Government from 2000 to 2003, and Deputy Minister of Municipalities and Housing from 1998 to 2000. He also served in a number of capacities between 1987 and 1998, including Assistant Secretary, Cabinet Committee on Policy and Priorities, Assistant Deputy Minister with Advanced Education and Training and Assistant Deputy Minister, Department of Education.

From 1973 to 1987 he held several positions with the Government of Canada, including Atlantic Regional Economist with the Unemployment Insurance Commission, as well as Manager of Economic Services and Manager for Employment Training Programs with Employment and Immigration Canada in New Brunswick.
